Sometimes we really need proof. “You can drink 2 litres of Coca Cola without stopping for air?” Show me. “Your great, great, great, great uncle was Napoleon?” Show me. Some claims are just too outrageous to believe at face value. Such was the case with Jesus’ claim to be the Son of God.
I have always been fascinated by Jesus’ Transfiguration (Matt. 17:1-13; Mark 9:2-13; Luke 9:28-36). It was perhaps one of the greatest proofs that Jesus was who he claimed to be – the Son of God. Not only did Jesus speak with two dead men (Moses and Elijah) or God affirm Jesus’ work and claim by speaking from a cloud, but Jesus’ actual likeness was transfigured. He had been touched by some other-worldly being and became quite different in appearance! It was fantastic proof that Jesus was the real deal.
Christianity has always been under high scepticism. There seems to be an incessant “Show me” attitude from the world regarding our claims. And, perhaps, we can’t blame them: If we claim to be the worlds only and true faith system, we really need the evidence to back it up. Thankfully, God provides fantastic evidence in us: we are transfigured. If we claim to be a disciple of Christ and a child of God, those with whom we interact will be looking for proof, even if they don’t ask for it. Our face may not shine like the sun, and our clothes may not be as bright as a flash of lightening, but if we are truly seeking God, our lives will be transfigured into the likeness of Christ, and the conclusions of the evidence cannot be denied: We have been with Jesus.
