There is very little that I know regarding my ancestry and relatives. Both of my grandfathers died when each of my parents were 12 years old. My father's mother died when I was only two months old, and my mother's mother died only a few years ago, but she lived in the Philippines, and I never got to meet or even talk to her -- she didn't speak English. I've not met any aunts or uncles. Sadly, family was talked about very little when I was growing up.
However, just because I wasn't told about these people doesn't mean that I don't care. Wanting to know where we come from is almost a basic human instinct. That's why several years ago I took it upon myself to start researching my family history, starting with my dad's side. Months of searching led me to the location of several important gravesites, including my grandfather's lost grave, which had gone unmarked for 65 years. I also met a 76 year old second cousin on my dad’s side. It's been a fascinating journey!
Your family history may be well known to you, or your experience may be much like mine but we all share a similar history as Christians. I wonder, therefore, if we are aware of our Christian heritage? Do you know where Churches of Christ come from? Before Bible College, I really didn't know. Yet, I was intrigued. The journey of discovery that I was led on captured my heart, and it's still not over!
I want you to take this journey through history also. Starting in January, the Sunday morning adult class will visit the beginnings of Churches of Christ – a story you won't want to miss!
