And then what?

A father asked his son, "have you ever thought about your future?"

"Of course, I've planned for everything!"

"Okay, then tell me about your plans," said the father.

"Well, after I graduate from college, I'll find a job, and I'll buy a house and a car," he said.

"Very good, my son. Then what?"

"Well, I'll get married, and I'll raise a family, like you."

"Fantastic! Then what?"

"I'll work until I'm old enough to retire."

"Excellent! Then what?"

"I hope I will leave enough so I'll be able to enjoy my grandchildren."

"Splendid! Then what?" By this point, the son was starting to get frustrated. He replied, "Well, of course, I'll die!" At this, the father looked at his son straight in the eyes and said -- for the last time -- "Okay, son, then what?"

It's amazing to see how much of our lives we plan out, and yet we forget the most important thing. We plan out the whole journey, but we forget to think about the final destination! Death (if Jesus doesn't come beforehand) and the judgment-to-come are two appointments that we won't be able to miss. We can't remove these appointments from our agendas. Equally certain, according to the Scriptures, is that eternity awaits us after the judgment.

Jesus came into the world not only to prepare us for these appointments, but to ensure that our eternity could be, and would be spent with God. He paid a price for our sins. To accept this, we must repent and be baptized.

Life is a journey that will end one day. When you arrive at your final destination, where will that be? And then what?
