In My Next Life

Last year I read an article by an author (whose name escapes me) who stated that in her next life she would like to be a bear. Here’s a portion of what she wrote:

I’d like to be a bear,
If you’re a bear you can hibernate.    You sleep for 6 months of the year. I want to experience that! Before hibernating you intake an enormous quantity of food. I can also live with that! If you’re a bear you give birth while you sleep (your babies are the size of a nut) and they follow you as lovely little bears. I can surely live with that. If you’re a mama bear everybody knows not to make you angry. You strike those who bother your cubs and if they get out of line you cuff them too. Your husband is not surprised that you are grouchy when you wake up, that your legs are hairy and that you’re overweight.

I have to admit that this life might be tempting – especially the part about eating, sleeping and being grouchy. However, for Christians there is a much better life.

What would you say about a life without suffering? A family reunion with those who love God? A place where there is no fear, doubt and where all your needs are met. Eternity in the arms of your heavenly Father.

3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." 5He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." Revelation 21:3-5
