Last Sunday 37 children registered for Coco and this week we could easily double this number. Any more than 60 kids, however, would require us to bring them into the auditorium and beyond that number would demand an entirely different approach, which begs the question, “What if we succeed too much?”
Until now, this outreach program has always been quite manageable. We have the facilities and people to handle the children and parents that have traditionally attended. But what would happen if this project took off? What if the number of children continued to grow well past 100 and parents started coming too? What if they continued to attend after the 4 week Coco program was over and filled classrooms, baby classes, nursery, and other services that we offer?
We often pray that God bless the church with growth but do we realize what it would mean if He did? For starters it would mean that those who are now serving in ministry would have more work to do. Secondly it would require more members to get involved in order to carry the increased load. Of course this would identify those in the church who are truly ready for service and leadership.
Finally it would force us to rely on the Lord because we would be working beyond our capacity, serving above our ability and this is where the power of the Lord is truly seen. It’s easy and safe to do Coco when we can “handle” the situation. However, faith grows when we get beyond the safety net of our own abilities and are only making it because He is supporting us. I think the Bible calls it...walking on water.
I don’t know how successful we’ll finally be with all of this but I pray that we’ll be ready if the Lord decides to test us with too much success.
