People need the church

Last Sunday, I was observing people in our congregation and the only things I saw were smiles, hugs, laughter, joy and love. I felt good among my brothers and sisters in the Lord. I was thinking of the fact that it is not easy to be Christian in today’s society but with the support of the church it is already much easier.

Many people who have a certain religious beliefs do not even know that the church must play an important role in their spiritual journey. Others are looking for a church that will help them in this journey. We sometimes forget the degree to which we are blessed to know the church; many people do not even know that such a church exists.

A survey of the Journal de Montréal taken last week showed that 42% of people said that religion was very important in their lives, but only 7% of them attended church regularly. So 35% of those who said that religion was very important didn’t even go to church.

We must make the church known to this 35%. Let us be attentive. Many of these people are among those who surround us each day. Let us not be afraid to tell them that we do go to church and, whenever possible, let us invite them. After all, these people say that they believe.

« I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord.” Psalms 122:1
