Recently there was a media story reporting that Jesus’ tomb was found and that He was probably married and with a child. For me, such a thought is blasphemous. And yet, there is a film being made on the subject along the lines of the DaVinci Code which will be seen by millions of people.
Of course my question is, “why?” Why are people so anxious to see these types of stories? Why is it so hard to believe the gospel and yet so easy to believe these tales? I believe it is because the gospel makes people responsible.
If God exists and has sent His Son to reveal His will then we are responsible to obey that will. However, if God doesn’t exist and Jesus is not His Son, then there is no sin, no judgment and we can live without guilt for our actions. Every idea, therefore, that tries to deny Jesus’ divinity is usually received with great enthusiasm.
For me the only scientific way to prove that it is Jesus’ tomb is with a DNA test. Let them compare the DNA of the bones with God’s DNA and the matter will be settled. All this to say that they can’t prove what they are claiming. In the end many people are ready to do whatever it takes in order to deny their guilt for sin except repent, but the Bible is clear on this subject:
“In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead." Acts 17:30-31 NIV
