A Little Bit of Humour

We all need a little bit of humour in our life. This morning, I offer you a few jewels of humour. These phrases were either published in church bulletins, or announced in church services.

  • Bulletin announcement for national conference on prayer and fasting: “The cost to assist the conference on prayer and fasting includes meals.”
  • “Women: don’t forget the charity sale! It’s an opportunity to get rid of those things around the house that don’t have much value.  Don’t forget your husbands.”
  • “The Peace Keepers meeting that was planned for today has been cancelled because of a conflict.”
  • “Don’t let your worries kill you. Let the church help.”
  • “For those of you who have children and don’t know it, we have a nursery in the basement.”
  • “Barbara is in the hospital and needs a blood donor for her transfusion. She also has difficulty sleeping, and asks for Pastor Jack’s sermon tapes.”
  • “Irving Benson and Jessie Carter will be married the 24th of October, here in our church. This ends their friendship that they’ve had since high school.”
  • “A bean supper will be served Tuesday night in the church foyer. Music will follow.”
  • “The subject of the sermon this evening will be ‘What is Hell?’ Come early to hear the choir practice.”
  • “Fellowship dinner, Sunday night at 5:00pm. Prayer and medication will follow.”
  • “The low self-esteem group will meet Thursday at 7:00pm. Please use the back-door of the building.”
  • “The weight-watchers group will meet at 7:00pm at the Presbyterian church. Please use the big double side-doors of the building.”

I hope you enjoyed a good laugh with these. Thank God for the blessing of humour!
